When professionals from the pharmaceutical and medical world organize a symposium, it's all about knowledge sharing, interaction, and strengthening relationships. For Pieter Oosthoek, who has been involved in organizing such meetings for many years, one thing is central: a conference venue where everything is just right. And he has found that for years at Lumen Hotel & Events.

Pieter has been active in the medical and pharmaceutical sector for over thirty years and has organized countless symposia, lecture tours, and roundtable meetings. His network extends to specialists from all over the country — precisely why a centrally located, easily accessible venue is so essential.

"For this symposium, face-to-face just works best. The interaction, seeing and speaking to each other "live" — you can't replace that digitally," Pieter explains.

The target audience usually consists of 80 to 120 participants, often nurses and medical specialists from the region. The meetings often take place in the evening, making it extra important that everything runs smoothly and the location is easily accessible.

Why Lumen?

The choice for Zwolle is logical for Pieter: many meetings are organized in collaboration with regional hospitals — and Lumen is literally around the corner. The recognizable location, ample parking, and good accessibility make organizing easy.

"Everyone knows that Lumen is on the PEC Zwolle stadium grounds — that makes it incredibly easy for participants."

Additionally, the technical support is a big plus. A well-functioning screen on the floor, clear presentations, and microphones that work without hassle are essential for speakers. "It's very reassuring that one or two regular technical people are present. That gives confidence," says Pieter.

Smart Catering & Service that Relieves

Pieter is very positive about the catering: varied, high-quality, and logistically smartly set up. Buffets and coffee stations are spread out over the spaces to prevent queues — an important detail at symposia with 60 to 120 guests. He also finds the contact with the floor managers pleasant and professional.
"Receiving a card with a direct phone number immediately gives confidence and makes it personal. During our symposium, we had some program overruns, and it was effortlessly accommodated. That flexibility is also definitely a plus.

Full Focus on Content

In medical and scientific meetings, content is key: speakers must be able to present well, and participants must feel welcome. All conditions must be right so that the focus can be entirely on knowledge sharing.

"When everything is right, you can focus on what really matters: the content. That's why we keep coming back here," says Pieter.

A Partnership That Keeps Growing

The organization for which Pieter facilitates meetings has now been a guest at Lumen eight times — with groups ranging from 30 to over 120 participants. Zwolle has become a regular location for them, often in October or November. Pieter is already looking ahead:

"We are already planning for the 2026 edition. One thing is certain: we will return to Lumen. The location is almost always available if you book in time."

The collaboration with Lars also plays an important role in this:

"We've known each other for years. It always runs smoothly. A familiar face is just nice."
